Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen will miss the next two weeks before being re-evaluated after an MRI revealed a hip impingement, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Markkanen reportedly suffered the injury, as well as one to his ankle, during practice Wednesday.

However, tests on the forward's ankle returned clean, according to Charania.

Markkanen is the third Jazz player in as many days to be ruled out for an extended period. The team announced Monday that Jusuf Nurkic won't play again this season after undergoing a procedure on his nose. Hours later, Vince Williams Jr. injured his knee against the Houston Rockets, with reports emerging Tuesday that the guard sustained a torn ACL.

Utah is also likely without trade acquisition Jaren Jackson Jr. for the rest of the campaign after he underwent knee surgery to remove a noncancerous growth.

Markkanen has played just 42 games during the 2025-26 campaign, his fewest in a single year since joining the Jazz in September 2022. Still, the 7-foot-1 Finnish star is putting up some of the best numbers of his career, including a team-high 26.7 points per game. He's also contributing 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and one steal per game.

The NBA fined the Jazz $500K earlier in February for withholding Markkanen and Jackson from the fourth quarters of consecutive games against the Orlando Magic (Feb. 7) and Miami Heat (Feb. 9). Markkanen has appeared in only two of their five games since.
