McIlroy posted a 13-under cumulative score at the BMW Championship to finish solo third and four strokes back of winner Wyndham Clark.
Analysis:McIlroy entered the week looking to bounce back from his solo 66th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The Grand Slam winner made a statement early with a six-under 64 opening round, and his five-under 65 score Saturday had him second behind Clark heading into Sunday. McIlroy tied things up at the top of the leaderboard after Clark went three-over in his first 10 holes. However, McIlroy was unable to push his lead on the back nine, and his bogey on the par-5 17th was the nail in the coffin for the Northern Irishman. He ranked near the bottom of the 50-man field in driving accuracy, but McIlroy led everyone in driving distance to finish third in SG: Off-the-Tee (plus-2.90 strokes). He also ranked T4 in GIR, T6 in birdies, ninth in SG: Putting and 11th in SG: Approach. He'll tee off next week at the TOUR Championship, which he won in 2019 and 2022 and finished T23 last year.
