Jake Knapp: Strong finish in St. Louis not enough

Rotowire ·

Knapp posted a five-under 65 in the final round of the BMW Championship to finish tied for 40th.

Analysis:

Knapp entered the week fighting to move into the top-30 of the FedExCup Standings for a spot in next week's TOUR Championship. He opened the tournament with a three-under 67, but any hopes of a strong finish were dashed by a six-over 76 third round, though his performance in the final round made his overall score look more respectable. Knapp finished T13 in birdies made and 24th in SG: Off-the-Tee, but he lost 3.18 strokes with his putter, which ranked 41st out of the 50-man field in St. Louis. Now that he's eliminated from playoff contention, Knapp's next chance to play on the PGA Tour is the Biltmore Championship on Sept. 17, though he could opt to take an extended break to allow his left thumb and wrist injuries more time to heal.
