Sahith Theegala: Playoff push ends in St. Louis

Rotowire ·

Theegala registered a one-under 69 in the final round of the BMW Championship to finish tied with Jake Knapp and Nicolai Hojgaard for 41st.

Analysis:

Theegala managed to qualify for the BMW Championship despite a solo 67th at the St. Jude Championship. He needed a big week in St. Louis to crack the top-30 of the FedExCup Standings and a spot in the TOUR Championship. Those hopes were slim to none after he went three-over par across his first two rounds, though he fought back over the weekend to finish the tournament even par. Theegala's struggles came mostly in his short game, as he lost 3.79 strokes around the green, which was the worst in the field. He also lost 3.33 strokes with his putter (41st), though he did rank 11th in SG: Approach and T21 in GIR. Eliminated from the FedExCup Playoffs, Theegala's next opportunity to play on the PGA Tour is the Biltmore Championship on Sept. 17.
