Philo will be Florida's starting quarterback Sept. 5 against Florida Atlantic for Week 1, Kevin Brockway of The Gainesville Sun reports.
Analysis:After a long quarterback battle going back to as early as March, Philo has bested fellow competitor Tramell Jones to earn the right to start Week 1 against Florida Atlantic. Philo gained a brief edge early in the summer, and based on how the QB competition turned out, never gave up his top spot. He brings a small amount of experience from Georgia Tech, having logged two seasons there with at least 20 passes completed each year. The question is if Philo can maintain a starting role throughout this season, and should that happen, 2026 would mark his breakout year in terms of statistical production at the FBS level.
